I know this may sound a bit "unscientific" but I think there's some credibility to it. I'd be curious if "moneyed neighbourhoods" could be defined by what is given on Halloween. It might be the type of survey question otherwise private people might be willing to answer. Or, at least, data collected on Halloween (which would better ensure accuracy).

I would definitely be interested in a study conducted on this topic. I believe the results would actually be very telling.

What are some other "Old Money" neighborhoods in Upstate NY cities? Do such neighborhoods in Binghamton, Watertown and Utica have names?
Is the money still there, or has it pretty much disappeared long ago?

I would say that it is still there or at least for the most part/a good portion, when looking at median household income information for these neighborhoods. This is relative to the area.

I'd say that it would be more industrial families/descendants or now new money families, but the character of the neighborhoods are pretty much the same or similar. Here is an example of one of the neighborhoods mentioned: Parkside Community Association - Home Page

For Ithaca it would probably be Cayuga Heights, a small suburb located just to the north of the Cornell Heights neighborhood in Ithaca. Some info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cayuga_Heights,_New_York

In Kingston - part of the neighborhood off of North Manor Ave comes to mind (near the old NYS Armory)

In Hudson - it's the neighborhood directly east of the intersection of 23B and 66 - don't know if this has a name, it's technically in the town of Greenport

River Road in Rhinebeck/Red Hook/Annandale definitely still has an old money component. Parts of the village of Rhinebeck do as well.

Hmm. Sadly, I don't think so. While some of the houses ARE lovely, many/most of them are multi-family rentals or businesses now. Also, it is more a house-by-house evaluation than the whole neighborhood...if you look through their pictures, you'll see a LOT of rundown homes and blight.

Would the blighted properties have a chance for revitalization?
