I grew up in a low income project in sheapshead bay in a single parent household with a working mother and never dealt with poverty of any kind nor have I had any desire to join a street gang because I never wanted/ needed to. If my mom had a much better job, we would have already moved into a regular apartment because she doesn't make enough to get one, but just enough for me to be comfortable all throughout my childhood. Was I just lucky enough to not be be exposed to the Hood lifestyle that they like to potray in the media? I never wanted to be apart of that lifestyle and never talked in Hood slang. I just try to get by like everyone else. I plan on starting college sometime next year.
