I live in a townhouse complex in endicott, ny. We have a designated parking space and for the last week, someone has been parked in mine. I do not know who it is and I've left notes on the car asking them to move but notes are still there and so is car. I called the lazy landlord but he didn't get back to me after two left messages. To avoid taking someone else's spot, I parked on the street in front if my door. Now I got a parking ticket! I left an angry message and landlord finally got back to me. Said he'd look into it and in the meantime take the spot next to mine. He's not done anything in 3 days to move the car. I went to fill out a form and explain why I was parked there and found out today the stupid judge told me too bad, pay it or set a trial date. I don't think I should be responsible for this ticket! I always parked in my own spot, it's not my fault some inconsiderate person took it and the landlord won't do a thing as usual. I explained all this in my request to have the ticket thrown out to no avail. What can I do to try and fight this? Or can I make someone else pay it? Where was I supposed to park? In my living room?!
Endicott has winter parking regulations. More specifically, you can't park on the street between 1-6AM unless it's posted saying you can, from Dec 1-sometime in spring.
It's your responsibility to know the parking regulations, and because someone took your spot isn't an excuse.
To directly answer your question: You should have found a street where overnight parking IS allowed in winter, of which there are many, and parked your car there.
Um ok. There are no signs I'm aware of around here like that. Should I walk in the freezing cold and leave my car in the crap neighbors because someone took my spot? I think it's the landlords responsibility to ensure parking since I pay for it in my rent. But whatev

I agree the landlord has a responsibility to reasonably attempt to resolve parking issues for you, and if the spot is in your lease, I'm pretty sure if you took it up with small claims, you'd be entitled to a bit of $.
My point is simply that your issue with your landlord doesn't give you any rights to violate the town parking regulations, nor is it a reason for the judge to get rid of the parking ticket. As far as where you can legally park on the street overnight in winter, if you can't find where the signs are saying you can nearby, I'd suggest calling the town and asking where you can.
There are signs posted at the entrances to the village - also posted on the Endicott website are street locations where parking is allowed. If you don't see any other cars parked on the street, pretty good indicator. EPD will be on you at 01:00:01 with a ticket, as you have seen. http://www.endicottny.com/StreetSnow.html
Also, pretty much every town and village upstate have the same regulations - be warned.
Binghamton and Johnson City are just alternate side parking, not an overnight ban.
