I am considering a move to Elmira for a career move--can anyone tell me about Elmira? I see that the demographics are not too appealing household median income is pretty low--what is the city like? What is it close to as far as major cities etc? Any information will be helpful.
I would try the general portion of the NY forum and enter Elmira in the search space, as there should be some good information on previous threads.
Syracuse and Rochester are about 2 hours away. Corning and Ithaca are two smaller cities that are only minutes away and offer some nightlife. Binghamton is about an hour or so away as well.
I'd say that The city's West side is the nicest and will probably have areas with the highest median household incomes in the city. Suburbs like West Elmira, Horseheads/Horseheads North, Big Flats and probably Southport will have higher median household incomes than many parts of the city of Elmira. Parts of the North and South sides may be fine, depending on what you are looking for.
