Hello all

This may have been answered in other posts...I have a possible UN job...now here is the question, where can I settle in with a 3 year-old that affords nice school, family community and home/rental that we can live in.

I've looked at Fort Lee and Fair Lawn NJ? How about Yonkers...etc...

My job would pay about 115K a year and I would like to keep the home we have in CA ($3000 mortgage a month)

Any and all info appreciated!!!

thanks!

Perhaps the Rivertowns in Westchester County(i. e.- Dobbs Ferry, Ardsley, Irvington, Hastings, Croton, Ossining, etc.).

Perhaps Forest Hills in Queens.

Are you going to rent the CA home? Otherwise I think you're going to have a very difficult time finding a decent rental in the NYC area with good schools on that income. After taxes and the carrying costs (mortgage, electric,. lawn service, water, etc.) on the CA home, you're left with about $40K a year to live on in the NYC area. Not going to happen.

I thought UN employees essentially pay no income tax, so maybe the income is higher than it looks.

Not the case at all. Foreign nationals with tax treaties to the US might not, but US citizens aren't exempt.
