From the article: " Japanese sake producer Dassai opened a new $80 million production facility in Hyde Park on Saturday that the state said will produce 32 new jobs and be eligible for $588,235 in performance-based tax credits, Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office announced.
Dassai is a centuries-old premium sake, or rice wine, distiller based in southern Japan that has operated for centuries according to a statement. The new distillery will also partner with The Culinary Institute of America to create educational content, the announcement said.
The facility broke ground in November of 2018 on the grounds of the former Stop & Shop supermarket
“With the launch of Dassai Blue Sake Brewery, Hyde Park is now home to the first-ever major sake brewery in the entire Northeast and a key player in developing the U.S. sake market,” said state Sen. Michelle Hinchey, D-Saugerties, in a prepared statement. “This achievement not only elevates New York’s reputation in the craft beverage space but also presents an incredible growth opportunity for Dutchess County and our Hudson Valley economy at large. Dassai’s presence in Hyde Park, where ties to the Culinary Institute of America run strong, is a true honor, and this exciting new business and manufacturing facility will undoubtedly shake up the drinks market.”
An announcement for the opening said that the launch of the 55,000-square-foot facility coincides with Dassai’s new U.S. brand, Dassai Blue. The facility at 5 St. Andrew Road will consist of a rice polishing facility and a distillery that is open to visitors and tours.
Dassai Chairman Hiroshi Sakurai said in a statement that, “The expansion of production to the United States is a significant step towards realizing the desire I had when I started Dassai 30 years ago, which was to have Dassai enjoyed all over the world.”
