I live in Troy NY. We had a successful business in Ohio for years but moved to Troy because we were ready for something a little more lively. We went back into business here in Troy and, despite crazy taxes, we're far more successful here than we were in Ohio. This town is loaded with interesting new businesses. I think a lot of the reason Troy is taking off so nicely is the energetic and imaginative quality of life we enjoy. Access to major international markets is another reason Troy is doing well. If you're a designer, you can do your manufacturing in less expensive Troy and get to NYC, Boston, and Montreal in short order. That's not a minor benefit. We are surrounded by first rate educational institutions which always enliven local social life and the city is eminently walkable. The two areas that need to be improved here are local grocery shopping, though we do have a first rate farmers market, and the public transportation throughout the Capital District is clumsey at best.
