Hey everyone. Just wondering what requirements there would be to transfer, as a school teacher, from the NYC area to Upstate.
I am a NYC DOE teacher and have my NY state certs in Special Ed and ESL.
We were thinking of moving to NJ or PA, but between distance, high taxes in NJ, and having to get another state certification, we are thinking about upstate now.
We don't want to move to far upstate either (maybe an hour or two at the most).
Since I'm NY state certified, I'm assuming I do not need to do much other than apply.
Any former NYC teachers out there who made this transfer?

Thanks in advance!

Nope, nothing new, you just have to apply. I asked my mom ( she was a NYC teacher for 6 years), we moved and she applied up here where we live ( 1 hour away) and within a year she was hired.

If you have NYState Certification in your areas (SpEd and ESL) you need nothing to move in the state. State Cert if gotten from the NY State Ed. Dept. (See below)

Certification:OTI:NYSED

If, on the other hand, you have some provisional cert that is NYC only, then you ought to contact NYSED -- or simpler, NYSUT. They can tell you and no hoops if you are union.
