So - What can anyone tell me about this area. We may be moving there in the near future - We know it is rather small, but what would be attractive from the family perspecitve?
I can't tell you that the area is very wealthy because it isn't, but it does have some beautiful scenery and nice state parks. I don't know Olean at all so I won't even comment on it. All I know of it is that it has St. Bonaventure University and that must be a plus.
I travel to visit relatives in Allegany County every year or so and a few towns that are quite nice are Alfred (also a good university village) and Coudersport, PA (just over the state line a bit). Cuba Lake is nice and Letchworth State Park ...a bit north of there has a breathtakingly beautiful gorge.
One plus would be that home prices are really affordable around there so if you have a job lined up, your money will go far in buying a home.
Allegany is a great area. People are friendly and helpful and you have all the convenience of a big city in our surrounding area without the hassle and crime. The school system is very good. The view of the mountains and hillsides and valley is wonderful. We have Allegany State Park, Seneca Allegany Casino. Antiqueing. Horseback riding, Rock City Park, Pfeiffer Nature Center and Regina A Quick center of the arts at St. Bonaventure University. Geocaching [ a GPS treasure hunting] has many caches in the area. For entertainment there are concerts, festivals , murder mystery dinners available. Check out New York Vacation Homes – Allegany for more information. Thanks Joan

Olean and Allegany are small, but if you dont need any kind of culture and you are happy with your ESPN and junk food I guess you can consider it a great place to live and breed.
More information about the university, which is known for its Division 1 Basketball program and the St. Bonaventure community(is a CDP according to the US census): https://www.google.com/maps/place/St...!4d-78.4750213
