I know college sports aren't huge, but I'd really like to know what the college sports fan demographics of the great state of New York are. So, if you are a RESIDENT or NATIVE of the state of NEW YORK, please vote in my poll. Thanks in advance!

Here in WNY it seems we have a lot of Pitt, Penn State, West Virginia & Ohio State fans, though most of those people went to those schools or are originally from those areas & moved to WNY.

I don't see anywhere near as many Syracuse fans here as I did in NNY.

From what I've seen I'd list them in this order (at least for the Buffalo metro) .....
1) UB
2)Penn State
3)Ohio State
4)Syracuse
5)ND
6)West Virginia
7)Pitt
8)St Bonaventure

In Rochester, for basketball it's all Syracuse.
For football it is more of a mix. Lots of Notre Dame fans considering we live nowhere near South Bend.

LOL..So true and I think they will keep improving. Many people don't know that Syracuse is actually 14th or 15th in all time Football wins in Division 1. It's just a matter of time, as there is a great history for the university in that sport.

When upstate, and especially in Central NY, it seems like every other person is wearing something to represent Syracuse. Makes sense, Syracuse U is marketed like crazy up there because of how important it is to that area. I know this because I go to school @ Oswego.

When I come home downstate, to the Lower Hudson Valley, there is an absolutely MASSIVE drop off in Syracuse apparel-wearing. In fact, I think I've seen less than 10 people wearing that stuff over this winter break.

I think for a program people will follow Syracuse - football, basketball, lacrosse, etc .... Syracuse fans will tend to be multi-sport fans and they are very popular in the area where I grew up

Ohio State wasn't a blip on the radar growing up for anything

Football was either Syracuse, Notre Dame or Penn State for the most part

Syracuse was dominant in basketball with other schools popping up on occasion (like bonaventure) .... UB wasn't thought of

the national programs that would make TV were also popular

college hockey was pretty popular ... even in smaller schools like Elmira ...... so was lacrosse, even at smaller schools like hobart - although people would also follow syracuse and hofstra as another major program of interest
