Hi,
I was planning to trip to drive to upstate NY during the 2nd week of OCT, does anyone know where the best areas for Fall Foliage would be during that time? and if there are nice places to stay for the weekend in those areas.
Leaves are beginning to turn already in Saratoga and Arlington, VT. The Adirondacks are usually beautiful, of course, the leaves and their brillance depend on the weather. Many nice B&B's and small inns in Manchester, VT.
Good suggestions given...You might like the hills South of Syracuse, as well as the Southern Tier. Locations in the Catskills or in the Champlain Valley would work too.
Keep an eye on festivals going on - both at the wineries and in the little towns ..... it's generally harvest season so you get some great food, drink and festivals to go with your foliage
if you haven't had a grape pie - find one - they're good
also keep an eye out for spectacular bbq chicken, salt potatoes, corn on the cob and all the other good eating
i'm more familiar with the southern tier & finger lakes - but there are a lot of things going on

Don't forget the apple orchards, which might have rides, an opportunity to pick apples and buy cider.
I know in the Syracuse area, we have Beak and Skiff, qhich is a big orchard just off of Route 20 and 80 in LaFayette, as well as a bunch of other orchards along Route 20. There's also the LaFayette Apple Festival too.
Don't forget to try Walkway over the Hudson-http://www.walkway.org/ I took some awesome pictures from the bridge last Columbus day weekend-the foliage was stunning on both side of the river. You also have Hyde Park-the Roosevelt and Vanderbuilt Mansions are not to be missed in the fall for views. Mohonk Mtn House has great hiking trails and views that are beautiful.
Letchworth park. (For the west of the state: You can just drive or plan to do lots of walking: 3 waterfalls, and it is a long climb to the top. Grand Canyon of the East) . If it didn't have a river at the bottom and an outlet, it might have been another finger lake.
