Hello,

How safe is E. Harlem? Specifically, 101st street and 3rd avenue. I'll be taking the 6 train most likely and would like to know how safe it is to walk to and from the subway station (103rd st) during evening hours from 7-10pm.

Thanks.

I personally have felt that the 103rd street train stop is not as nice of a neighbhorhood and is more dangerous than living off the 110th street or 116th street stops (in that order). I used to live on 117th, between 2nd and 3rd, and always really liked the area. The biggest indicator is to look at the surrounding blocks, because there are a few housing projects, and you want to avoid the blocks around those. There tends to be loud music, lots of people outside during late hours. Also take a close look at the building and ask other residents about the building. In the 2 years I lived on 117th street, I saw A LOT of new restaurants, stores and shops come in. Let me know if you have any other questions about the area!

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it! Just one more question, are there a lot of housing projects in the area between 101st thru 103rd streets between lex & 3rd ave? Would you say it would be a pleasant walk. Btw, I'm not silly but am not exactly the toughest looking, street-smart kid out there. I'm 5'2 and on the slim side.

area isnt that bad. i would agree that the 103 station is alittle shady, but if youre walking from 103 and lex to 103 and 3rd. thats only one block. i would feel okay walking around there at night.
