USING THE POLL BUTTONS PLEASE VOTE: Would you send your child to a NYC Specialized High School or would you prefer to send them to a private school?

There are nine Specialized High Schools in NYC. All are FREE. Admission to the eight schools below is based on the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT).
  • Bronx High School of Science
  • Brooklyn Tech
  • Brooklyn Latin School
  • High School for Mathematics, Science and Engineering at City College
  • High School of American Studies at Lehman College
  • Queens High School for the Sciences at York College
  • Staten Island Technical High School
  • Stuyvesant High School
Admission to Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts is determined by audition rather than by examination.

Why would you choose one over the other?

There are nine, you left out LaGuardia.

I have 3 nieces/nephews attending specialized high schools, and the oldest one has already been accepted into an excellent, exclusive university with more to come.

I stand corrected. However, admission to LaGuardia is determined by audition rather than by examination.

I will amend my post. Thanks!

I view them all as having merit-based admissions.
