This is a problem.
For some reason,Williamsburg never developed the infrastructure to become a livable neighborhood for so many people.Lots of hipster galleries and boutiques, bars and a Thai restaurant on every block but no supermarkets, hardware stores ,dry cleaners, tailors or shoe repair places.
Many who live there(and I was one for years) take the L train to Union Sq to shop .Hardly convenient.
Now,the boutiques, galleries and Thai restaurants are starting to close.Maybe they will eventually be replaced by things that people actually need.

I was there today expecting to see nice homes all around...quite contrarily, it was pretty ghetto. I don't think I saw one building that didn't have bars on the windows...and it was dirty, my god was it dirty! Got some awesome stuff at beacons and buffalo exchange though. The brewery looked cool (I used the bathroom there).

If you think Williamsburg is ghetto, then you need to spend more time outside of Manhattan.

I mentioned this in another thread. Williamsburg is one of the dirtiest and ghettoest looking neighborhoods in the city but the people who are there don't see it.The streets and empty lots are covered in trash and there is graffiti everywhere.Trash cans in front of every building are spilling out all the time and nobody picks up anything.I lived there for a long time and when I was moving out last year I went through some pictures of the early days. I was shocked at how much cleaner the neighborhood looked 15 years ago ! I didn't realize how it was degenerating aesthetically while I was there. For some reason, they think the graffiti is art so they tolerate it... no,promote it !
The neighborhood where I live now( IN THE BRONX !!!)is much, much cleaner and doesn't have 1/10th of the graffiti of Williamsburg.
It is very strange that people put up with it.
