I saw some list on salary list salarylist.com but just wondering if the city job pays higher than rest of NY state? I heard Wall Street is high for sure, but I am thinking to get some school positions? Should I consider Long Island?

I think that web site must be buggy --- or a comma is misplaced somewhere.

The salaries seem WAY to high. Programmer analysts do not make 800K. 80K is more like it.

These are 2007 data...a bit on the dated side.

I wonder how they came up with some of those figures. $832,000 for a performing musician? That right there would make me suspect everything else on the lists.

To the OP: in general, the salaries will be somewhat higher in NYC than the rest of the state. But expenses here are greater, too (although you really don't need a car here, for example, unless you insist on one). It's going to be a question of how you want the tradeoff to work.

Glassdoor.com is good as it has actual salaries posted by current (and former) employees. You can search it by companies too. It is a recent start-up so the info may be a little limited for now.

City agencies, such as DSNY, NYPD, FDNY. Those are the top 3.

He/she must be doing more than a song and a dance.
