Hi there. I am just wondering about the train in SI that goes along from St. George Station, Tompkinsville, Stapleton...etc line. Is there an express bus that goes from lower manhattan to those stops?. Also once you take the express bus is it a walk to home situation or take another bus or cab it?. If so is it like that for both sides of SI. I have to maybe move to SI due to temporary job so I am reseaching before I say yes.

A lot of different questions. There are 20 or so express bus lines that go from various parts of Staten Island to downtown and midtown. Whether there is one within walking distance depends upon where you live. You certainly can find housing within walking distance of an express bus stop, or within walking distance of one of the trains. There is only one train line, and it serves a rather small segment of the island.

There are about a dozen express buses running between Manhattan and Staten Island. Check MTA's website...or get a Staten Island bus map. They're all listed. Depending on where you are in lower Manhattan, you could also use the ferry to get to SI, and then get a regular bus once you're there.

There's a whole bunch of express buses, though they're relatively expensive ($10 round trip) and most of them have rush hour focused schedules. Taking the train to the ferry is cheaper, but really only worthwhile if you live near a train station (most people don't), and not on the South Shore.

In terms of getting there, I'd say most people just walk to the express bus stops, though some drive. It really depends on the area. I wouldn't rely on the local buses on SI unless you have to, though - walk or drive to the express bus or train.
