I may be moving to NYC (either Manhattan or Brooklyn) in the near future. For library employees, does working at NYPL eliminate your joy in reading?
I ask that because I used to love cinnamon rolls. I worked at Cinnabon for a summer and I think I've had a cinnamon roll no more than 5 times since then.
Sorry I don’t have an answer to your question, but just wanted to say that I hope you get some good answers here. I’ve been actually thinking about becoming a librarian. Looks like a peaceful job. If librarians in NYC get paid at least $95K, I’d be all for it!

I hope so, too. Which branch of librarianship would you pursue?
I have a good friend who is a senior supervising librarian in the NYPL system. He likes to purchase and collect books in the topics that interest. He plans on reading them when he retires as it doesn't seem like he has much time to read nowadays (as he records shows that he likes and seems to devote his free time to watching those).
He has a lot of stress in his job as they have piled more responsibilities on him over the years (due to staff cutbacks because of lower budgets). There is also stress from dealing with difficult patrons. I know that he is looking forward to retiring when he is eligible for full benefits in approx. a year from now.
I used to volunteer regularly at that branch and St. Agnes before the pandemic. I loved both branches. I used to volunteer at both very often and I was kinda hoping with all that dedication I had that they would offer me a full time paid position. But nope, it was just, thank you for volunteering, have a nice day! I was kind of bummed. It would be so cool to work there full time and get paid $90K.
