I wonder about this too. Did anyone ask us - the city residents and parents of the NYC schools - whether we agree to this?

I personally care, because there are many Italian Americans in this city who cherish this holiday. Also, I don't like the idea of erasing/canceling the historical events just because someone in this government agency decided to do so without asking anyone.
