Staying in the Jazz on the Villa hostel, is it safe?...(or looking for a cheap safe place to stay) (New York: hotel)

Hi, I´m planing on going to NY for a couple of weeks, but I´m on a tight budget, I was looking at the Jazz on the Villa hostel, and planning to stay there, but I was wondering it the hostel is in a "safe" neiborghood (12 West 129th Street)...

I might be getting back to the hostel late at night... probably... and in case is worth mentioning that I´m a Latin guy...

Or is there another cheap hotel or hostel in the city that I could look into?

Any advice or comment would be appreciated
