I got placed for an internship at a school on Avenue X (betw W11th and W 12th Street) in Brooklyn, close to Coney Island. The school is across the street from PJs and the area looks a bit sketchy on the google satellite map (although I may be just paranoid). Is it safe for a swf to walk these streets? I would be taking the train to get there. Does anyone know the area? Any info would be greatly appreciated..

thats marlboro houses...it is a little sketchy over there....i would take extra precaution walking on stillwell ave, to me that looks like the rowdiest part of marlboro to me. the blocks surrounding marlboro are quiet however, there's no huge spillover of crime from the projects to the surrounding area like in most instances....other than that, the most i can tell you is be aware of your surroundings.

I live a handful blocks from there, never any issues. As he said, no spillover from the PJ. Just go up to Ave U and its a very nice area.
If you google map it you can see walking path to either the D or N lines.
You have the plus of being right near L&B on 86th St.

there arent any real business in that area. I am sure you can find more reputable internship than the one around ave x.

thanks for the reply. Had no choice as to the location. I finished the internship intact, but witnessed two bloody fights on my way on the F train. One with blood actually splattered all over the train car and me when I was 8 months pregnant. Police came a few stops after. Never going back!

It's Bay 50 Street on the D train. Actually, the area on the other side of the tracks from the Marlboro Houses will probably make you feel much safer.
