Hello everyone, I'm not from US and although it's too early for me to consider moving to NYC as realistic scenario at this moment, I was wondering if it is possible to save some money while living comfortable in some parts of Manhattan with 125-150k annual salary?
This website predicts around 83-100k after taxes, that would be around 7-8k/monthly income
I know that this is totally individual subject, and while somebody could do it with 45k, others couldn't with 345, but generally speaking, what would be some basic monthly expenses including rent which can be found for around 3000-3500$/month, what would be the cost of some basic expenses, internet, telephone, gym, owning and driving reasonably priced car, food, utilities, occasional restaurant/theater/basketball game visits...
If it's worth of mentioning, I prepare 90% of food at home because I'm working out and I'm paying attention to my diet. I'm single, 27yo.
There's also going to be significant city income tax at that level, like $6500-$7500 Internet $90/mo., gym $100/mo but if you're paying $3k your building will have a gym. Forget about the car in Manhattan. Electricity is expensive, but will be offset by the small size of apartments I pay $40-$120 depending on season. Theatre/restaurant/basketball games are so expensive I generally see those in other cities on while on vacation.
If you want to stack cash, move to an outer borough or Jersey City. Living in Manhattan is an experience.
"Measured by median income, Manhattan and (especially) Brooklyn are much poorer than you think. Manhattan's median annual household income is $66,739, while Brooklyn's is a mere $44,850. Its less fashionable neighbor, Queens, outearns Brooklyn at $54,373 per year."
Passive-bragging during the holidays is seriously jejune and puerile.
Thank you people for responds, glad to hear that, and about car It's not that I really need it, but since I'm big car/motorcycle enthusiast I would feel very strange without one, but okay for start that can wait.
One more thing, are these websites precise with estimations? I'm pharmacist from Europe (5 year college, mr. ph. - master of pharmacy) and estimated average/median salaries for that job are around 115-130k according to these
It would be definitely smarter to work in smaller city with less taxing, and cheaper life but I would like to feel Manhattan and NYC life at this age if I could manage to get desired job there as non US citizen.
