Hello, my friends and I are planning a tour in New York city next month. We wanna drive from Virginia to New York. Can we just find a hotel outside of it, and take bus or subway to the downtown? Would you pls suggest some good places to park my car and close to the public transportation system to New York? Thank you.

I'm thinking Fort lee, NJ, one of the hotels near the GWB, take the bus across to 178th street and take the A train downtown

I have found great hotel deals around the Newark airport. About a month ago I got a reservation at the "Four points by Sheraton" next to the Newark airport for around $60, a great deal in the NYC area!! That is in the city of Elizabeth. Also "the Hampton Inn" in Linden, NJ also has great winter deals, I can't speak for the current prices though.

A tour of NYC can be comprised of many activities, it really depends on what interests you.
