Few months ago I put into the lottery on NYC Housing Connect for a 2 bedroom new renovation in Harlem. The price is $2000 a month for 3 person family (myself, wife and son) which is the same as we are paying in the same neighborhood for a 1 bedroom. Yesterday I got a letter that I was randomly selected for an interview. I am pretty excited as this is a good deal if the place is what we are looking for. Has anyone had any experience with this lottery process and can speak to it and the overall quality of the apartments that they offer?

if they're renovated they have a brand new exterior and interior. they don't demo the building. pre-war buildings are better, than the newly constructed because the brand new units are rush jobs. so if u get a newly renovated one, go for it. especially in prime harlem

There is a lot of information on this board about affordable housing, housing lotteries and 80/20 housing, the process, the procedures, the finances, the time line, etc. You can search the NYC forum on the right side of the screen where it says Search This Forum. The search function works pretty well.

Ultimately, though, you will have to make your own decision about whether to move or not. To me it boils down to what you have already. Are you rent stabilized now?
