How difficult is it to find a good apartment without paying a Broker Fee? I'll be moving to NYC in August, and will likely be looking in the Hoboken, NJ and Queens (Astoria, Forrest Hills) areas for an apartment. I'd really like NOT having to pay this, which being from Texas, is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. Here, Apartment Locators are paid by the apartment complex for finding the tenant, not the other way around. Am I going to be stuck in a dump if I don't go through a Broker?
Broker fees are a total scam....unfortunately it is the standard in this city, and places like Hoboken. Brokers are usual pretty dumb, and most could not afford to pay a broker fee either...so you will likely be euqally frustrated dealing with these imbeciles and losers.
That being said....your best bet for avoiding broker fees is to try craigslist...and if you are looking in Hoboken I believe a good website there is hobokeni.com and hoboken411.com ..try those.
I'm with you on that. I'm from TX too so it's all foreign, but then again, there's plenty of housing and then some to go around in TX. Either way, you may also want to check Sublet.com in addition to Craig's List. Best of luck to you!
You live there? I thought, from your information, that you lived elsewhere. Have any recommendations as far as areas go, buildings, etc? I'll be commuting to 44th and Broadway (times square..but you probably know that from the address), so proximity to the PATH is important.
No problem; I'll gladly let you buy me a beer, dude
I went to school at Rutgers so I lived in Hoboken while I was in school. Great town. Proximity to the Path is key...but you can also commute via the Port Authority....if you live uptown you can go directly to Port Authority by bus and be right on 42nd street...of course the Lincoln Tunnel can be very unfriendly!
By the way, my school and team just lost to what is rumored to be your current coach's next job in the Alamo Bowl. Not sure if you watched it, but it was painful to watch us blow that one.
Lol...well I went to school at Rutgers...but I also went to school at Florida...so MY team is the Gators and the loss to Michigan was a HUGE blow.
