I wanted to change my name, but I was just wondering, if I change my name, would people be able to find me if they googled my old name? I know that jobs would find out I changed my name if they did a background check but I don't have a problem with that. I'm talking about regular people. If someone was to google my old name would they see something that says "Blah Blah changed his name to Something Something"?

I live in NY and in NY and you have to publish your name change in a newspaper so I was just wondering if googling my old name would bring them to some article on the newspapers website or something. Thanks!

Probably.

In some cases, I'd imagine that's a bigger deal than others. If someone converts to Islam and wants an Arabic-sounding name, I doubt they would usually have a problem with their former name being easily accessible. On the other hand, with transgender people and whatnot, there might be some kind of exception, as it's a delicate issue. Never changed my name, so I don't know, but I suspect all adult name-changes are treated the same, except for marriage-related ones.

Sometimes it is very hard to find someone who changed their names especially for women's using their married names, etc. In particular it is hard if it happened before the wide spread usage of internet and social media.

These days it depends on who is looking.... with the advent of the internet nothing can be completely hidden. Doing a background check on someone is not really that difficult. Why do you want to change your name ? Is the law looking for you ?

It's not as easy as changing screenames on this forum as you just recently did.

So what exactly did you do that you now need to hide?

Oh cool, you're that same person who made that terrible thread about hating tourists, and then all your replies were GIFs of Mariah Carey or something equally nonsensical.

Depends how "out there" you are. How visible you are. If you have your information out there all over the place like on social media for instance you will be easy to find.
