What are the consequences (delay in pmt, wait more time, reduction in benefit ck etc.) if you get a day's work during that first week of waiting with NYS unemployment?
Thanks for help.

This would throw a curve ball into your payment. I would not do it; it may just get you cut off if your social security number comes up as working. Once established and the checks are coming in, you may do so, in the amount will be deducted from your payment.

If you work during the week that you file, you are obligated by law to report what you earned (gross) or you can be charged with fraud. However, there is a deductible, as in the first 50$ do not count against you. I recommend you report what you earned because the unemployment office looks for fraud to recollect money! Your wages will always show up on the system with your ssn but it will take 3 months to show the current so you may think you got away with it and then three months later you are dealing with a huge problem. If you repeatedly do not report wages you will get questioned. If it is one time not as likely but still can happen. I suggest you report your wages and accept a partial payment or possibly no payment due to your waged to avoid a fine and fraud. If you are being paid under the table and you trust your employer not to report it to the ui office then do not report anything at all.

They will deduct 1/4 of your waiting time. So your first check based on your next week's unemployment will be 1/4 of full week's amount less than you expect. Just make sure you tell them (or type them) about the 1 day worked.
Then you will be back on track.

It happens often and it never creates a problem.

Just learn to think of full weeks of unemployment as 4 days and every day you work removes a quarter of the amount. Work 2 days and you get half, work 3 days and you get a quarter and work 4 days and you don't file.
The money comes out of your total "pot" so if you get a lot of partial weeks, your 26 weeks is extended.
