I'm looking for tennis courts in Queens, (Preferably in the Woodhaven/Howard Beach area) where you can play without a permit. Are there any parks that fit the billing?

Don't know of any in those areas but if you're in Woodhaven then Hyland Park shouldn't be too far for you. It's where we go to play tennis all the time. Plenty of courts there, and seeing as how most people there don't play tennis, most of the time, you can take your pick of empty courts. Word was, that they were renovating recently... Don't know if that's still the case...

FWIW, word is that getting a permit for the year is not expensive at all... You just have to go to the department and ask for a permit and I heard it was some ridiculously low price like 10 dollars for the year... Don't know how true this is, but it's worth a shot... Then you can officially take your pick of empty courts across the city...
