At D'Amore's in Bay Ridge yesterday about 7:00 PM after shopping at Best Buy.
Upon entering, there was a commotion with a man at the counter who was being verbally abusive to the owner and staff. He was asked to leave, and headed for the door, still cursing. A women with a toddler asked him to please stop as there was many children around.
He stopped and began to curse at this woman. At this point, myself and others yelled back and asked him to leave. it got worse..He began shouting various racial slurs at several people, and making threats. it was absolutely disgusting. At that point, almost EVERYONE, young and old, black and white and in between got up and banded together and approached. This was the icing on the cake. He tore a** out the door...Not one punch was thrown. (Though he deserved that and more..) My point here...Everyone was united against his hatred and anger. People were asking one another if they were OK. And the threat was retreated without another violent story in the news. It was unity with restraint but aggression against this awful human being who clearly had nothing but disdain for not only himself, but everyone else. I was glad there was no violence and proud of the way everyone on this beautiful evening handled it.
Proud of my fellow NY Pizzeria diners in bay Ridge on this evening.
Great thread... With so much bashing on this cite of this city about native and transplant new yorker alike among other things, its nice to see stories like this that prove otherwise and show that it is only the ignorant folk and not people in general that allow prejudices to get the better of them... They're really are good people of all races, shapes and sizes and this event was a perfect example of that... gave you rep points for the thread...

Thank you Anon1! There is a lot of bashing...But this is a great city with strong and kind people of all races and walks of life. And they all came together in the face of last night's display of racism and hostility. Thank you for the rep and positive feedback.

You shoulda kept your trap shut.
People are nuts out there.
Next time you take it upon yourself to scream at what OBVIOUSLY is a nutjob, think about how messed up the rest of your day is gonna be when your spending 5 hours in the emergency room with your freshly broken nose.
Mind your business.
Superheros wear badges and carry guns.

There was NO way I was going to allow a women with a TODDLER to be abused or hurt. Thats crossing the line. Could not let that stand. Sometimes you have to take a stand. And the majority in the restaurant was in agreement. I agree minding your own business is usually smart but.....
A women with a toddler dude..
No way..I will just have a beer before going to the emergency room then.
