Hey all, I'm making a move to Staten island in a few months but Im having trouble finding a good area. I will be attending the college of Staten island, I'm in my early 20s, single white female, Italian. Just looking for a safe area with a young crowd or Italian neighborhood. Where I live now in Florida I live Italian community so I'd like to have a sense of home. I'm looking for maybe apartment, townhome something nice and decently priced. thank you
You'll definitely have no shortage of Italian neighborhoods in Staten Island.
You can try New Springville, which is a short bus ride away from CSI (the S61/S91 bus). You can also try along Victory Blvd in Castleton Corners (Willowbrook would work too, but I think there are more Italians in Castleton Corners).
Both areas have bus service to CSI (the S62/S92 or S93 buses), and the areas along Victory Blvd have an easier trip to Manhattan than New Springville (either the express bus or a bus to St. George for the ferry, which is cheaper but takes longer than the express bus)
Try the South Shore, along Hylan Boulevard. Being Italian, you'll fit in perfectly in many, if not, most neighborhoods in the borough.
If she has a car, she can try the South Shore (though the housing prices would probably be more expensive there). Without a car, I wouldn't recommend that she venture too far: Like I said, she should look in New Springville, Castleton Corners, Willowbrook (which is right by CSI), and Bulls Head (a long walk or short bus ride away).
All of those areas have a decent-sized Italian population, though not quite as large as the South Shore's.
