What can one do on fire escapes?

People used to sleep on fire escapes during heatwaves before air conditioning was commonplace. My mother said they did that when she was growing up in East New York.

We stayed in Park Slope a few years ago during Succoth and everyone built their little tents on the fire escapes.

I used to hangout with my friends outside the fire escape. Sometimes I put my plants outside the fire escape so they can get some sun and than put them back in by the evening.
