Concerned female needs your advice! Please … What are relatively safe (!) streets/city blocks to rent an apartment within 10 min driving distance at most from Downstate Hospital/Kings County Hospital Center?
Prospect Heights and Parkslope, eg, are a little bit further than I would like.
Could somebody give me exact street names in Kensington, eg, that are safe for a single mother (!) and still very close to the hospital? I have the impression from the WWW that a "patchwork" of relatively safe vs. unsafe street blocks can exist within the same neighborhood, right?
[I will move to Brooklyn from out-of-town in 2 months because I will start to work at Downstate Hospital. I'll return from work when its dark, hence safety concern!]
Thanks a lot!!
I would go with anything west of Ocean ave except areas around E18st & E19st Tennis ct - Beverly rd. My friends tells me that area is still sketchy, but elsewhere is fine. Maybe you could look for an apt near Cortelyou rd, theres a lot of good restaurants popping up, and that restaurant The Farm on Adderly has great bunch. Its a very family friendly neighborhood with beautiful colonial homes.

If you can afford it, do it. I don't see why a 20 minute car ride instead of 10 would be such a big deal.

Good luck. That area is a dump surrounded by hood types.
Extend your commute a bit so you can live in a nicer, safer place - Windsor Terrace or the South Slope
