Hey everyone,

I'm going to be in Manhattan from the 18th to 24th. I will be staying in the Mariott Marquis hotel in Times Square.

As this is the first time I'll be going to the city, I will certainly be visiting some of the tourist hot spots. But I was wondering where some great non-touristy (read as: places locals go to) restaurants/delis/etc are.

I love Chinatown - STAY AWAY FROM CANAL STREET - Any of the side streets will be way more interesting - have great and not super crowded restaurants and better food. I like Nom Wah Tea House - Its super cheap and really good - its @ 13 Doyer Street - Moscot street has a great Thai food gourmet store (lots of stuff to bring back home) - and Mott way down away from Canal has all sorts of shops.

You'll be close to Hell's Kitchen which has bloomed into a great neighborhood for food. I don't have time to link, but you should look into Amy's Bread, Sullivan Street Bakery, Nizza, El Centro, Kashkaval, Two Boots Pizza, and the billion Thai places along 9th Avenue.

Food carts. I was just in NYC last week for the first time and I will never forget the food I got from those carts. Lamb gyro? I still dream about it I think it was like $5 and it was HUGE!
