Hi all, I currently have a Master's in Early Education but would like to teach ESL in NYC public schools. Do I have to go back to grad school to get a Master's in TESOL, or can I simply get a TESOL certification, because I already have a Master's...although in a different field.

Thank you very much!

You can get certification if you are already certified to teach. I would check gradschools.com for schools that offer TESOL and then go to the individual college's websites to find out the specifics like tuition, certification, etc. I know for a fact that Mercy and Adelphi would allow you to just get a certificate if you are already a certified teacher. Adelphi has a Manhattan campus where you can study on Saturdays and Mercy has a few campuses and offers TESOL online.
