Two friends and I are looking to find our own apartment in NYC. They both currently live there ( one is on the Lower East Side, the other near 34st Manhattan). I also used to live there (lower east side) but because of personal circumstances I am back in Pennsylvania until we are all able to find a place of our own.
Basically we are all very very familiar with NYC love it and know it well, the only thing we are having trouble with is finding a place we qualify for. Since we are young (20-22) none of us have any credit established for the many apartments that have credit checks as a must to qualify.
We've been looking continuously online (mainly craigslist) and would love to get some input on some more reliable resources and websites or even any tips that would help us out. honestly anything would be appreciated.
for rent about 1000 a month. we're looking to move by the middle of this month/ beginning of February. not picky about space and area is no issue.
$1000 each or $1000 total??? For $1000 total, you will find nothing in Manhattan. For $1000 each ($3K total), you can find something. I would steer away from Craigs List --- alot of shady stuff on there.

Craigslist is fine to use as a starting point for meeting brokers who have listings that meet specific criteria. I've found two apartments and two very nice, helpful brokers on there.
Anyway, to the OP: you're going to need guarantors, most likely.
Yes 1000 all together. I agree with the comment about craigslist being shady. We know manhattan wouldnt be likely, we've been looking everywhere in brooklyn, the bronx and queens aswell.
any other good websites? or different tactics to broaden the search or any names of some good helpful people/brokers?
You're not going to find a 1BR in a decent area of Manhattan for $1K. I also don't think a LL would rent a 1BR to 3 men. It would be different if it were a couple with a child, but to 3 adults? No. (not even sure if that's legal).
You'd be better off pooling more money and living in a nice section of Queens in a 2BR.
yea we're not looking only in manhattan. were looking in ALL boroughs with whatever amount of rooms it's just the price range that's important. we've seen some place but our cosigner changed their mind at the last minute and we're here in this situation now.
any places to start re-looking for apartments where NO CREDIT won't be an issue? or just anything helpful?
It's going to be extremely difficult if at all possible to find a landlord who'll rent to three 20 -22 year old adults in your situation for a thousand dollar a month apartment.
I'm curious, why is space not an issue for the three of you?
