Call me elitist, call me privileged, call me snooty, but I would consider a dishwasher an absolute necessity in an apartment and not a bonus. I've been invited to submit docs for a mini-lottery 2 bedroom in a new luxury building in Brooklyn. But from all the photos and floorplans, it looks like there is NO DISHWASHER. WTH is that??? Is this even legal? (Yes, I know it is legal) I get that lottery units generally don't get washer/dryers and I can definitely live with that, but no dishwasher?

Is this common in lottery units?

It is definitely not common. But sometimes it happens where there is no dishwasher. I, like you, also think it is a necessity!

I feel like dishwashers and central ac/heating is the norm for housing lotteries now. I always find it funny when I see studios with dishwashers, like how much dishes does one person have to wash?! Lol

But on another note having a in unit washer/dryer is life changing! Once you’ve had it, you don’t want to go back to anything else.

I believe developers can leave out a dishwasher in lottery units. My friend’s apartment came without one, and no built-in microwave either.

It is uncommon for lottery apartments to lack them, but not unheard-of.

I could grit my teeth and use a shared laundry room again (it's very nice to have your own, but it's only needed about once a week), but d/w...I can't go back.

I just found portable/freestanding dishwashers on Amazon for anywhere from $400 to $700. I guess I could make it work, but what a pain in the @ss!!!

I'd probably have to sneak it in the building in a baby stroller. LOL
