Just FYI - HDC has changed how they are allowing MHANY to calculate income.
I went for a preliminary interview in Oct/Nov and was found to be in Band 3.
Following my second interview at the end of April (where I had to update my expired paperwork) I was told of the calculation change and now fall in Band 5, even though my income dipped a bit from last year.
Finding this to be a bit ridiculous since it means I'd be paying more than 50% of my take home pay for an apartment I wouldn't even qualify for on the regular market because I don't make 40x the rent.
Not to mention they had already started filling apartments prior to this calculation change.
Has anyone else encountered this?

MHANY is a ****ing S--TSHOW of a supposed "non profit" agency. They used to be called ACORN before a bunch of dram stirred up (google it if you want). Absolutely disgusting, mismanaged agency full of morons and temp workers who can ruin your life. I HIGHLY suggest that anyone who has applied to 461 Dean, this building, and the 6th avenue one to request they send you back all your personal documents because I highly doubt this moron agency has the IQ to shred peoples' documents who didn't get apartments. You do NOT want every single thing about your personal life floating around that office, TRUST me on this.

Shouldn't you have considered that before you turned off all those documents? Or is just because you didn't get an apartment you feel the need to slander people that are working hard to run these lotteries?
They're probably having a really hard time filling the highest-rent units, because truthfully, they're not much cheaper than the actual market-rate rents of the building. It is a stabilized lease though, and that's nice. No harm in going. I bet they're throwing an "open house" pre-interview to try and sell you on it.

It also makes sense for people to see the building before they going through the process of submitting all the paperwork. Why bother if you aren't interested.
I received an e-mail yesterday inviting me to come to an Open House BEFORE My intake interview.
My log # is 3x,xxx. Seems a bit high to me to be called in at this point?
This e-amil was my initial contact with the agency.
Thoughts? I'm in band 5.
I was sent the same invite. I don't understand why they would think anyone who is applying for affordable housing could pay $2700 for a one bed apartment.
