Hi,

I'm looking to move out of the CBD to Mid-city or maybe Lakeview or Metairie. I want to cut back on the price of my rent and live closer to City Park and UNO. I am considering going to UNO to retrain into a new career so a closer proximity to that would be nice. I've been looking on craigslist and rent.com but I haven't really seen anything that caught my eye. I really don't want to park my car on the street and I kind of want to rent a shotgun style house as opposed to renting another 1br apartment. Is this something that can be achieved for around $700-800 a month in a safe neighborhood or is this price range wishful thinking?

I saw the property American Can in Mid-City but their prices were almost as high as what I have now in the CBD.

Lakeview and the nicer parts of Mid City will be tough at that price point. A shotgun rental usually means street parking. You may be able to find something on the fringes of Mid-City along Tulane Ave or closer to Broad St.

If you're going to UNO, check out Gentilly, the closer to City Park, the better. Even the "bad" parts of Gentilly aren't really that bad. Metairie near the parish line is a good option as well, lots of apartments and rentals.

Thanks for the feedback! I've been searching zillow and I have come to realize that New Orleans is becoming a popular city and housing prices are getting high. I think Gentilly is a good option.

Don't sleep on the East. There are decent areas in that part of the city.
