We lived in New Orleans in its heyday of downtown retail. On Canal street the large department stores of Holmes, Maison Blanche & Godchauxs attracted customers world wide. We're coming for a Tulane SOM reunion & have short periods of time to devote to shopping. Other than One Canal Place, what other QUALITY retail stores are in the downtown area? Retail on Magazine is too spread out unless you have a car & hours to walk the street.

Rubensteins Menswear and Fisher Jewelers are about it.

There is also the new renovated Riverwalk outlets: The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk :: 500 Port of New Orleans Place, New Orleans, LA. 70130 :: (504) 522-1555

All the other higher end shops are Uptown. The Magazine bus is pretty frequent and if you have the transit app, it will tell you exactly where each one is in real time. There are some good clusters of businesses along Magazine that wouldn't require that much walking. I would pick one and concentrate on that section. The edge of the Garden District and up around Whole Foods are good options.

Thank you. I knew the Riverwalk had closed for remodeling but didn't know it had reopened. I enjoy Magazine St. when I have adequate time. It's sad to see the decline of Canal St., which started many years before Katrina.

I watched a show on tv a few months ago and it was about New Orleans and how it has changed over the years. Most of what they talked about was Canal St and the old stores that used to be there. I love this city now, but it made me wish I could go back and see what it was like in those days before my time down here.

How was Fisher Jewlers for you?

I'm looking for a place that does good jewelry touchups and fixes.

Thanks
