Hi. My family and I currently live on the west coast of Sweden but are thinking about relocating to NM. I am a freelance writer/photographer and my husband a video editor so we are not a high income family. We like what we've read of the peacefulness and beauty of NM; Sweden is also a peaceful and beautiful place.

We are a quiet family with 3 girls, ages 4, 12 and 14 and we are homeschoolers. We don't bother anyone; we mostly like to explore nature, take photos, study the stars and grow things.

Can anyone tell me what Rio Rancho is like? Hub travels much in his work, so it would be just me and the girls most of the time. Any info on that area will be very much appreciated.

Default Relocating to Rio Rancho

Rio Rancho could very well be the perfect relocation spot for you and your family. As of this date, it is the fastest growing city in New Mexico. For over 20 years now, I have lived on the east side of Albuqueruqe where I operate my own business from home. I am planning to move my company to Rio Rancho before year end so have begun to focus all my marketing efforts that direction. So far, I've found the community and business leaders in the Rio Rancho marketplace to be the most cooperative I've ever come across. The city tagged itself as "The City of Vision" but is quickly earning a reputation as "The City of Action". They don't just talk; they DO. The positive synergy created but such an environment can only continue to stimulate their economic expansion.

You say you are into writing, photography, and the like. You should know that a large motion picture studio has decided to move its headquarters there and other related businesses are soon to follow. You will get a lot more house for your money there and your children will go to newer, more progressive schools. Follow the City-Data links to the Rio Rancho community resources and you will be able to get more details. Be sure to check out the Rio Rancho Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development websites.

The Rio Rancho area will no doubt seem a bit stark to you coming from Sweden, but it won't take you long to discover why New Mexico is called "America's Land of Enchantment" and ways you can be happy living in Rio Rancho.

Wow, Barb. Thank you for the info! I just might get to see my husband more. LoL Seriously though, it all sounds good. I have lived in Texas before so I think I can manage. Anyway, I think that happiness is state of mind and since I am determined to be happy, I know if we end up there I will be.

Default Texas Vs. Rio Rancho

I certainly agree with your viewpoint on happiness! Given that you have lived in Texas, Rio Rancho won't be a shock for you at all. Currently, Rio Rancho is not the "greenest" part of the Albuquerque MSA but if the forward-thinking leadership prevails, the potential is certainly there. Since your husband is into video editing, be sure he checks out the New Mexico Film website at http://www.nmfilm.com/. Just this last week, our Governor announced a contest that might of interest to him, provided of course, that you are planning to move right away. ;-)

Barb T: SOLD!

This is wonderful information about Rio Rancho!
I'm looking to relocate myself. I've been researching places like Harlingen, TX., Sierra Vista,AZ., and Rio Rancho but there's definitely something enchanting about this place and I feel slowly gravitating towards it. I'm breaking up with New York City. The city of light is no longer what it was when u was a child. I've lived in small towns where "everybody knows your name" , Florida, Connecticut. But I'm looking to "settle in" and RR sounds ideal.

Thank you!
