Need info on fishing the lake's,stream's,ect. here in New Mexico
Me and my wife are going to go to Cochiti Lake and wanted to know if anyone has any info as in what type of fish are in the water and when the best time for catching fish would be!
If you like fishing you need to come down to Clayton Lake State Park for the annual Trout Derby in the second weekend in May. $500 for the biggest trout, you can also win an aluminium boat or $1000 from a drawing ($1000 to be confirmed). Bring the kids too, they get .50cent for every mud cat they catch too. There are plenty of other drawings also http://claytonlakestatepark.com
Cochiti has white bass, smallies and northern pike. You're gonna be a little early for the white's. Fish with a mid running plug along the dam rip rap for northerns and possibly a smally.
The outlet below the lake has trout too... some fat bows.
To be truthful I've fished cochiti a lot over the years and I've never done that well. Better luck to you!
The white's will start running in a month or so down and Elephant Butte and Caballo real good. I can't wait! Beer and fishing indeed BrianH. It don't get much better!
Ty your info i do know to just to get out and fish with my wife is what makes me happy as well for herself to have a partner that injoys fishing as much as i do is a blessing!

Changes from season to season somewhat but Eagle Nest and the Red River area are good usually. Charrette lake is good too. Quemado is good further south and Bonita in Ruidosa while crowded supplies my freezer every year. Don't eat anything from Cochiti. There's a no eat order there. Are you interested in stream or lake more?

Once again id like to tout Clayton Lake for it. Ive seen guys catch their max limit in 30 minutes there serveral times last year! Of course i didnt, thatd just be too good! But the local sports shop makes their own gold and silver spinners, and since i used them, i have never gone fishing and come back with less than two,
Seems i got alot of exsploring to do in the water,s here,and ty for your advice both off you!
