I am considering moving to NM Winter of 07. I currently live in Charlotte, NC and can't stand it, so ready to get out of here. No dating scene, nothing to do, nice city but boring.
What is the dating scene like in NM? For folks over 30.
I hear people are unfriendly in NM, how true is this?
The reason I am interested in NM is the outdoors, I love the desert, I love latin culture. But I am afraid of moving to a place like Charlotte where you are out of luck if you are single.
After living up and down the Rio Grande within NM for the better part of 8 years, stick to Albuquerque. It's the only normal area in the entire state. People are "real" in the sense that it's not trendy and hollow like Santa Fe, mostly Retirees like Deming, or excessively violent and racist like Espanola or Las Vegas. Albuquerque has what your looking for. Not to mention it being the most fit city in the country now, and within easy distance of serious outdoor activity.
Albuquerque definitely has the rest beat hands down in terms of diversity, activities and numbers. Cruces has a lot possibilities but it's a smaller place. Getting involved in classes at the university has been productive for me.
I have always heard crime was so very bad in ABQ as opposed to other cities. I cant stand the trendy, hollow feeling as you say of Santa Fe but there must be something around that hits a good medium for singles. I am 35 and would like for a change to live in a place that has other singles in it. I guess being a single parent its hard to get both worlds, what my child needs and what I would like. Anyone out there raising a teen in ABQ? I have heard Taos was no good for it what do you think of locations? Thanks for any help
Well I've said this in other threads but the one big drawback I see to Albuqueque is to singles. I'm 40 something and the singles scene just doesn't exist here like it does in other places I've lived -- DC area, Houston, and Austin. Mostly what I see are things catered to the 20 and early 30 somethings and that is the club scene. My son is grown so I don't know about the "parents without partners" groups in Albuquerque. There isn't a lot of singles groups or activities for what I call the 35 and up groups. I'm used to organized single dances and volunteer groups and social groups and that just doesn't really exist here. There may be some church groups too, but since that is not my thing I haven't looked into it.

Any thoughts would be great.
Thanks,
I love Deming, NM & I'm not from here. I've been here over 4 years. I love the HIGH elevation and dry climate - it's very healthy place to live. Over 1/3 of population is K-12 age bracket; about 1/3 are retirement bracket. I'm in the middle of the above brackets. I've rarely found mean-spirited New Mexicans, but I'm sure they are out there - like most any other place in the world. Luna, our county, is the 2nd fastest growing in NM. Deming is 55 miles West (on I-10) of Las Cruces which is the 2nd largest city in NM. Deming is expected to double it's population within the next 8 years FYI. I'm looking forward to such growth.
