I have been to Ruidoso a few times but never in the winter/Christmas time. Any suggestions for places to stay, things to do during the week leading up to Christmas? Thanks!

Inn of the Mountain Gods website entertainment page lists a couple of additional activities: chuckwagon dinners and sleigh rides.

I've only stayed at Inn of the Mountain Gods and at a cabin in town in Ruidoso. I liked the Inn of the Mountain Gods especially because of the casino but it is a little bit of a drive to town.

It is a ways from Duke City but it's a nice place! Haven't been there for years but have seen a couple concerts there years ago, one being Raton's music claim to fame--the Fireballs! And Jimmy Gilmer was with them. I still remember total audience participation when they played their 1967 chart hit "Bottle Of Wine!" I got to know a few of the band members when they got a table at the Albuquerque CD and Records swap meet which back then was at the Howard Johnson's off Eubank, near the interstate. George Tomsco and the members cheerfully autographed album covers, sold their t-shirts and cd's. Great times back then!

I don't remember "Bottle of Wine" but certainly remember "Sugar Shack." I also waitressed at that Howard Johnson's restaurant the summer of 1975 while attending University of New Mexico. The CD and Records swap sounded like a lot of fun!

Speaking of concerts, Downshift Brewing Company in Ruidoso seems to have bands once or twice a week although nothing currently scheduled right around Christmas.

Don't forget the Christmas parade in Ruidoso , tubing ,

https://ruidosowinterpark.com/winter-tubing/

https://www.flyingjchristmas.com/
The ticket booth opens at 5:30 pm along with the Western Main Street, Santa’s Workshop, hayrides, and more. Dinner is served promptly at 7 pm. The Christmas Music Stage show featuring the Flying J Wranglers begins at 8 pm.

Seating is assigned from the stage back as you arrive at the ticket booth.

and drive down to Cloudcroft

CloudCroft is about an hour south and at over 8000, ft should have some snow , the drive on Hwy 244 is very scenic , through the mountains , Cloudcroft is a really cool little town .

In Ruidoso

I stayed at The Inn of the MTN Gods, the motel 6, the Best western and rented a Cabin , the scenery is amazing , if it snows even better!

I went to Flying J in the summer, and enjoyed it way more than I expected! Nice folks running that place. I bet the Christmas show is lots of fun.
