Hi-
I'm a proud 2005 graduate of Texas Tech B.S. Human Dev. & Fam. Studies.

I'm returning to Lubbock with a friend sometime before Spring 2008 to see some other friends before they graduate Tech.

It's a grand old tradition that we leave Lubbock sometime during our visit for some relatively faraway place for their quirkiness and quirky hole-in-the-ground restaurants.

Our choices at present are Tex-Mex at Mi Casita in Fort Stockton or a hamburger at Burger Builders in Hobbs. These were suggested to me by a friend from Fort Stockton who now lives in Denton & a friend from Lovington who now lives in Big Spring. I've been to none of these places but Denton & Big Spring.

Any quirky dining/quirky tourism suggestion(s) would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,

fallguy

Indeed that is the question: are they worth it from Dallas??

Lubbock sure is b/c I still have friends there.

I think Hobbs would be b/c it's bigger than Fort Stockton & closer to Lubbock than is Fort Stockton.

I have friends from Hobbs & Fort Stockton but they now live in Big Spring & Denton, respectively. It would be a mark for me if I could tell them I'd seen their hometowns & eaten at the best restaurants there.

My Hobbs friend in that story is actually from nearby Lovington, NM.

I have another friend who went to Elem & JH & Hobbs, then Midland High, then Tech & is now in gradschool at Texas Woman's University in Denton. She sez Midland is better than Hobbs & Hobbs is a real rough town that faces struggles with youth drugging & drinking like so many other places in America.

I've not been to Ft. Stockton and the burgers at the place in Hobbs are darned good! Plus, you can do the casino while you're there.

I was born and raised in Hobbs and it's changed a lot but not enough to get me to stay...I visit often but three weeks is my max. If I didn't have friends and family still there, I'd not be going! The wind has always been bad but it's a killer right now...not to mention the fire dangers. They need rain very badly in that area.

HAVE FUN wherever you decide to go!!

You're a champ!!!

IF you do choose Hobbs, you will be absolutely blown away by the sunsets. I miss them terribly. Sunrise ain't so bad either..........

I miss the boattail grackles too. And the Rufous hummers. And the jackrabbits.

Arklexee-
I'm glad you think I'm a champ, thank you!!

I have chosen Hobbs over Fort Stockton as the "30 min. vacation" from Lubbock.

Hopefully my Cousin Dave in Abilene will be able to help me with Fort Stockton.

Thanks & talk to you when I get home from Lubbock/Hobbs.

Enjoy it. The buffet at the track/casino is darned good if you're of a mind to check it out.
