Thanks, C24L. I am stoked right now!

Had the interview today with the Manager at Alamogordo. It went well, the answers I got were positive about how she runs things and all of her business decisions were sound as a pound, and in line with my thinking as to keeping patient's safe and getting the most out of each and every study. I would love to work for her and do a good job for GCRMC.

Next order of business: figuring out how to break this lease here in Manson, WA. It runs through May 18th, 2018, and my wife and I may be out of fortune trying to do that. If I were out of a job and needed one, and I found one in New Mexico, we might be let out of our lease. But, I am working, and we've signed a lease that runs through mid-May of 2018. I would need to Google it and dig into it a bit - perhaps ask a labor lawyer and/or a real estate attorney the question online somewhere. I'd love to move back to Alamogordo, NM, and finish my career down there. Wonderful Manager there.

Well elko you are one of the original startups for this thread...in fact I went back and read your original post and response to "snoopy" and his desire for a "squeaky-clean" locale...haha...but I agree with most of "snoopy."

"Breaking a lease?" I only did that once with a 30+yr rental history and I regretted it...but it was so long ago I don't remember the circumstances. The thing is though I believe you said you wanted to own a house? Still, breaking a lease might even affect that (ie, paying your mortgage)? My current lease also runs out in May...and I plan to move (not to Alamo though).
"Finding a labor lawyer?" Good luck with that. If there were any we'd have LESS bullying in the workplace. The plain TRUTH is in this fragile economy: it's a "landlord's AND an employer market." They don't have to rent to you...or hire you...if they don't like who they see. Believe it!

But anyway..."home is where your heart is"...BUT remembering that if you return to some place you've been before (been there....done that)...NOTHING stays the same. CHANGE is never stagnant.
On that note elko...good luck in 2018!! Since I'm so close to Alamo I may drop down to see you all (ie, a visit) after the Winter. I do enjoy White Sands Monument...and I do like NM's state vegetable: green chile!
Merry Christmas.

I appreciate all of your input, tommyp. My wife and I have a lot of history in Alamogordo, and, our church there is fantastic. Our current arrangement makes attending our religious meetings and preaching work rather tenuous, and it's because of our dogs and our renting agreeement. We're renting the lower half of a beautiful lodge in Manson, WA, on Lake Chelan. Well, the problem is that, if we leave our dogs and go to the store together, our dogs bark up a firestorm of unbridled energy. Our upstairs neighbors can't handle that, and I don't blame them.

So, early on living here, it was determined that every time we leave the house, we have to take our dogs. To stores, worship, etc. That has severely hampered our worship attendance and preaching because of the hassle of the canines and their fierce protectionary barking. So, I'm gonna envoke a change. Yes, it's a no-no to break a lease. I'm banking on it not hurting our purchasing deal on our working/retirement home down there. For one thing, it is a buyer's market in Alamogordo. Take a look at what $100,000 buys down there. Incredible value for your $100,000 bucks. Some of those houses have been on the market for over a year. Our money will be welcome, trust me. The housing market is flourishing in a lot of places, but not in Alamogordo. It's for different reasons, but, it's a supply and demand principle working there. Basically, there are not enough buyers for the supply. Supply up/demand down=lower housing prices. It's a buyers market for housing in Alamogordo. Jackpot!

Will this be easy-peasy for us? Nope. I like to move way more than my wife. I am pledging to just stop after we move back to Alamogordo. Buy our house, work out my last few years to age 62, 63, 64, or perhaps 65, and then retire. I have a pension and there will, in my humble opinion, still be Social Security cash monthly. My wife will get half of what I get for Social Security, too. I don't know what your all's opinion is on Social Security, but, a fellow worker at Boeing in Everett, WA, once told me that no President would stop Social Security on their watch. Politically it would be an absolute nightmare, and, think about it. It would create an absolute overload of anger sweeping across the nation. Violence in the streets would erupt. Oh, yes it would. Social Security will not be abolished. It may be cut, but it won't be abolished.

So, we've got our work cut out for us now. Indeed. But it will be worth it. Alamogordo is remote, but, it's a car society. Las Cruces was a frequent destination for us to go eat, shop or go to a movie. Alamogordo has a new theater as of 2014 I believe it was. El Paso is an hour and a half south for more entertainment options. Dripping Springs, Aguirre Springs, Three River Petroglyphs, Mescalero Apache Casino (for the rock shows, not the gambling ), Ruidoso, Carlbad Caverns, White Sands National Monument, on and on and on. The hiking possibilities are endless in the region Alamogordo resides in.

I'll be frequenting this site and updating it, you know that! Right now I'm basking in the glow of being able to make my wife happy about where she lives. She has some good friends from church there and she did not want to leave. I sincerely want to make this happen - to make her happy once again about where she lives. I want to move back, too. They say you need to live somewhere at least two years to really bond at a place. We lived in Alamogordo for just a tad over two years, and did we ever bond there!

As far as my employer there: they told my job recruiter that they would love ta talk to me. There's not enough RPSGT's ta go around - I have a skill that's in demand. So that bodes very well, I can work for as long as I can continue working. My wife makes sure I eat right. She is a fabulous cook - as an employee, she's a prep cook, but she can cook up a literal storm. I kid you not - I eat well, and I eat healthy. I see a doctor regularly and a dentist regularly. In short, as my Kansas City doctor told me "keep up the good work." I feel fairly good and I have several years of work left in me.

So this endeavour has some slippery slopes to it - I'd be lying if I told you all that this is going to be easy. I don't back down from a challenge, though. I am going to work with my former employer and my recruiter to make this happen. I get two months of paid housing down there paid by Gerald Champion plus I get relocation money also paid by them, that will help immensely in getting this done, folks.

WHOO-HOOOO!!!!

I'm not only going to have to get out of this lease, but have just discovered another cost to this possible move to New Mexico. My current employer reimbursed me for moving expenses $2,500. If I don't stay here a year I owe a pro-rated amount back. I've been here for 3 months, so I'd owe them around $1,800 back. Ugh. My enthusiasm is starting to wane. I'm not going to give up on the idea - just going to have to get a little creative here and there.

How about approaching your (hopefully) new employer, explaining about the additional costs, and asking them if they would cover them. They are legitimate moving expenses, and if they really want you they might say yes. I don't see a downside to asking.

Yes, rwjoyak, that is indeed one of the first things I'm going to ask my recruiter to ask for. He is an amazing job recruiter, he has a way of making me feel like anything is possible and that something will work when I am talking to him. This employer is the type that will pick up extra expenses for you - I hired on the first time for them in January of 2013 and they picked up several extra expenses for me.

I'm still very confident this can happen and I still think it will.

I was talking to my wife about this today. I don't think we should pass up this opportunity. I loved living in Alamogordo - there's something special about it for me. I met so many great people there - people that look out for other people. It's a wonderful place and I am back to scoping out houses on Trulia - Alamogordo. Trulia is the finest search engine for houses - you can find out where in the town it sits with the Maps function. You can use the Streets function and see who your potential neighbors are. And you can roughly figure out your payment on that site - and, see anywhere from 1 photo to 65 photos of your future house on there! It's great!

Elko: An old song (60's--70's) had the refrain: "If it ain't easy...let it go."----Tanya Tucker. Your original move was for a sick relative. I assume that is finished...but not my concern.

1) Moving expenses? "Payback?"...you bet, especially after 3 months of employment! AND in NM?: moving expense help ONLY if the hospital (NM) is in a NEED situation. I say all this because I'm a retired RN and I KNOW the politics in this semi-corrupt massive industry run mostly by WOMEN. And in New Mexico many of its' citizens look the other way while the 'good 'ole boys' do all their thinking for them. If the Feds (ie, the Labs and bases) pulled out of NM it would be VERY 'dirt poor.'

To use an old expression elko...UR beginning to sound a little like a "broken record." IMO if you try to 'push' to hard it usually never works out. BUT then given your last LONG post...'naivete' may be part of your thought processes? Sorry about the reality stuff...but good nurses have that in them.

Hope this all comes together for you Elko. I did most of my searching on Realtor.com because it is the best of the search engines for updating listings. However, my brother found the house I bought on Trulia because they also list homes for sale by owner, which Realtor usually does not. We are looking for 66 and sunshine here in Alamo on Christmas Day, and I for one plan to work on my tan. Try that in Oregon's Willamette Valley in December!
