Hello! I'll be relocating to northern NM later this year and thought I'd see if anyone has any suggestions in terms of where to begin looking for work. I am a licensed social worker with a master's degree and currently work in NYC. I am bilingual (Spanish-English). Any help would be greatly appreciated; for reference, I'm intending on relocating to the Santa Fe area, but would be willing to commute. Thank you in advance for any thoughts!

I'm not sure of your specific area of concentration, but there's always the New Mexico Behavioral Heath Institute in Las Vegas, NM. That's the state mental hospital about 50 miles north of Santa Fe. I attend Highlands University here in Vegas and I'm working toward my MSW. They tell us that the hospital is always looking for new social workers, especially those with experience. If you're bilingual, Spanish-English, then you'll probably be a shoe-in!

Good luck.

Default Re Social work

You might also try looking to the different Reservations. I am sure they have some very challenging clients and programs.
Speaking Spanish is great. If you could add Zuni and Navajo would be perfect. However, that might take a lifetime.

The State of New Mexico I would think would have many opportunities for you.
The Gallup area and also Las Cruces(nice area) would be good starts.

Happy trails,
and we need your kind down here.
Good luck,
HW

Thank you for the tips Hunter World! Luckily (for me) social work is needed everywhere; the tough part is moving somewhere completely new and knowing where to start. Your ideas are invaluable- many thanks!
