my boyfriend and I are travel nurses. assigned to a hospital in hobbs new mexico. the contract is for three months. we are traveling with our dog. do you think this is a safe place to travel? how miserable is it here? any and all input is welcome. thanks!
Was in Hobbs today, it still is a very challenged area. But if you are at the big hospital complex up on the Lovington highway and plan to live in north Hobbs area, you should be ok...common sense always applies, more so as you go south..
You might want to think of living in Lovington, as an option...
I grew up in Hobbs, and have since lived in Houston Texas and Anchorage Alaska. Hobbs was a great place to grow up, but yes it is a pretty tough town. Most disagreements were decided by who won the fist fight. That being said, Hobbs is nowhere near as violent, or has a crime rate that comes even close to Houston or Anchorage! Someone earlier said the culture there is more Texas, not as much traditional New Mexico, and that is 100 % true! If you're looking for the "New Mexico experience", Hobbs isn't the place for you. If you're looking for a modern day old west experience, Hobbs awaits.

Ya they dont call Eastern New Mexico "Little Texas" for no reason.Hobbs certainly is part of Little Texas in my experience and not really like the rest of America's Land of Enchantment.
The OP was asking about this 10 years ago. They probably already made their decision.
