Okay -- tried to figure out where to post this and didn't seem to fit on city vs city, but freaking out about having to drive from Tucson to east coast (I did it from east coast to Tucson -- hated it) but doing a different route. With the weather, fires (don't know what's going on right now with that), border issues, heat I'm not looking forward to it. Also driving with a 'pet' aka: little dependent/child. No, I cannot fly. So -- if anyone has driven the routes recently, any tips or areas to avoid -- any truckers out there?, let me know. I will be driving a regular car which will be a bit heavy loaded with a car port (luggage on top of the car). Going through steep mountains in the heat, rest areas, stops.

Routes are rte 10, staying all the way, going along the border in Tx through Dallas (really don't want to go along the border for so long) and want to be in less desert, not more (not sure if there is anyway around that) AND want to go a more populated route. OR, can go on rte 10 to NM, then go on rte. 26 (seems like small road) to connect to 25, then get on 40 (which is what I took for a bit heading west). It is an hour longer, but not sure about the mountains going up to Alb. Could also head up straight north from tucson and get on 40 but it was slow going and steep climbs.
