I was hoping to find someone who has had good experience with finding an open-minded Thyroid Doctor in the Bergen County Area. I was going to one Endocrinologist, but he did not listen to my concerns and was very closed minded about my situation. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!
one of the best doctors who deals with this is dr Tomes, Jacques Tomes in Ridgewood. I believe that is how you spell the last name. He is on Union Street I think in Ridgewood. People think this guy is GOD! I worked for him, lets just say he is demanding of his staff but his patients love him!! Extremely praised and many patients really refer to him as GOD!
I go to Nancy Lentine in Little Falls. She is not an endocrinologist but both her and her PA deal with many thyroid and hormonal issues. She is way more "open minded" then traditional Endocrinologists. Goes more by symptoms than numbers.
Is there any updates in your search? I'm living in Secaucus and in extreme need of a thyroid doctor... Not an endocrinologist that does not listen. Thanks!!!
He is a primary care physician but has superior knowledge in endocrinology. He has been treating my thyroid condition for years when no endocrinologist would listen to me. My T4 levels were within normal limits but I had off the charts high antibodies against the thyroid and when compared to previous T4s and TSHs the levels dramatically changed. I literally could not get out of bed in the morning - it was horrible. He has been a Godsend and is one of the best physicians I know. One of my best friends who had her thyroid removed due to cancer (they got it all, thank God) also sees him now as well and feels the same way I do.

Warning on this one. It seems HE thinks he is God. Several of my family members, all women, have gone to see him, and he has an attitude toward women. He does not listen, and even worse, he tried to put one of my sisters on thyroid medication when nothing was wrong with her thyroid. She asked him why he was giving her a prescription for synthroid, and he said it was because her thyroid levels were low. She said she thought her levels had checked out as normal, and he just sort of dismissed her and walked out of the room. She went home and checked her blood test results and they were normal. When she called his office to ask again why she was given the prescription, they simply called her back with the message to not fill the prescription.
My other sister, who is a nurse who worked in Ridgewood and who has hypothryoid, specifically went to a different doctor because she did not want to go to this guy.
Two different stories in these two posts, so it's up to you.
Thank you all for the updates and responses. After I go to my first appt, I'll give an update! Thanks!
