I saw this old home for sale in Lumberton, NJ on Main St, Lumberton, NJ 08048. The price was in my price range.
It seems from the posts here that there are good and bad areas in Lumberton. Could you tell me whether this is in the good or bad section. Also, besides the house being VERY old and needing a tremendous amount of work,(LOL) is there anything we should be looking at in this neighborhood to make the price be so cheap?

I'm not sure what part of Main St. you mean, but the "village" of Lumberton is a nice area. The biggest problem is flooding. There was a major flood in 2004; the last big flood before that was 1939 (I think) but the creek runs over its banks every few years. There's quite a bit of traffic along 541 and it backs up at the Landing St. light.

Gerania is spot on in this analysis. I remember the flood of 2004 and Lumberton on Main Street sustained heavy damage. Not sure if you have kids, but Lumberton, I think, is in the Rancocas Valley district, so when they graduate elementary school, kids then go into the Mount Holly school primary school system, in essence. That might be part of the reason why property values, as a whole, are lower in Lumberton than in adjoining Medford or Southampton. Gerania also mentions traffic, and it is indeed a factor. Having to back out of your driveway directly onto Main St during morning rush hour is going to be an irritant.

You are not referring to the old victorian house on main street are you? That house needs a lot of work.

As far as Lumberton goes, I would only be concern about the traffic on the main street.

There are other houses for sale on Main St. (I just checked). There's one up by the cemetery and another across from the fire house... that backs right up to the creek. I'd be worried about more than traffic with that one.

Default Lumberton

Thanks for the responses. My computer died and this is my first time back. That's such a help about the traffic. That would be an irritant.
I don't have little kids so school isn't an issue but I'm glad to know about the area. I've seen other houses there and at least I know what I', looking at.

YEs that old house was what we were looking at on line but i believe it's sold now. Although it needed A LOT of work, it was a beautiful house and might have been worth the massive labor. lol

Well we'll keep looking.
Lorraine
