Boy, I miss these places. I've heard they're still around in other parts of NJ and the country, but are there any still left in Bergen or Passaic counties? There used to be a Hostess thrift store on Midland Ave. in Saddle Brook that had to have been there at least 30 years. About five years ago, they closed and I think it's an auto parts store now.
Likewise, there used to be a great Pepperidge Farm thrift store in Midland Park on Godwin Avenue. The owner moved the store to Ramsey and closed soon afterward. (I remember talking to her one day in the Ramsey store and she told me it was a horrible mistake moving to Ramsey from Midland Park, saying that too many kids were loitering around the Ramsey store and causing mayhem.)
there was a wonder bread/hostess I think in Ramsey, I wonder if its still there too! Opps I just read your whole post, no more Ramsey. I saw a WOnderbread outlet recently in Scranton, PA! Thats about it.
There is a Thomas'/Arnold outlet on rt 46 in Kenvil/Succasunna. It's in a little strip mall about 2 miles from Rt. 80.
Take Rt 80 to Howard Blvd, Mt. Arlington exit. Left on Rt 46 and it's at your next light on the right.
This was on Newark Pompton Turnpike, but I think this closed a few years ago.
The Entenmann's Outlet is still there, although they've moved across the street. The newer store is smaller though, and the selection isn't quite as extensive, but it's still great to have them. Most days pies and cakes are 3 for $5.
I'll have to check out that Hostess store in East Rutherford. Thanks for the updates!
